Kansas City University (KCU) students and faculty now have the benefit of two innovative leaders in new positions for the University and its College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Effective Dec. 2, G. Michael Johnston, DO, assumed the role of Associate Provost of Faculty and Student Success, a new position created out of the need for support of KCU’s continued and significant growth on both the Kansas City and Joplin campuses.
Known as “Dr. J” by students, he is a 1973 graduate of KCU College of Osteopathic Medicine and he has taught students, interns and residents for more than 40 years. He has been employed by the University for almost 20 years.
“Dr. Johnston’s years of experience as a physician, dean, teacher and mentor will help faculty achieve advancement, set standards for faculty roles, and develop growth opportunities for the University. He will also continue to teach in the College of Osteopathic Medicine and remain active with students to help ensure their success,” said Ed O’Connor, PhD, provost and executive vice president for academic, research and student affairs.
Also effective immediately, W. Joshua Cox, DO, was named Campus Dean for KCU-Kansas City, a post previously held by Dr. Johnston.
“Dr. Cox is one of KCU’s most motivated, disciplined and creative leaders,” said Darrin D’Agostino, DO, MPH, MBA, executive dean, College of Osteopathic Medicine and executive vice president for Health Affairs.”
A 2000 graduate of KCU College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Cox was named the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) 2019 Educator of the Year. He has been a mentor to many students and has served on committees for the ACOFP and the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, and previously served as a Board member for DOCARE International NFP, the Missouri Society of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and the Kansas City Regional Osteopathic Medical Association.
