Clinical education is at the heart of what we do. There is no substitute for real clinical experience.
That’s why at KCU you’re immersed in clinical education from start to finish.
Our College of Osteopathic Medicine delivers unparalleled early integration of clinical experiences through multiple avenues including sophisticated human patient simulations; Score 1 for Health, which provides hands-on learning while giving free health screenings at nearby elementary schools; and global health outreach trips moving you into your third and fourth years of clerkships.
The Simulation Center
The Simulated Patient Program features state-of-the-art patient simulators, introducing you in your first and second years to integrated medical emergency scenarios and linking those interactions with the simulated patient interactions. Not only will you develop important physician-patient communications skills, you’ll be better prepared to complete your clinical clerkships during your third and fourth years.
PsyD Practicum Experience
At KCU, the PsyD practicum experience allows students to develop and demonstrate the necessary competencies to prepare for internship and acquire valuable practical experience to enter the workforce as knowledgeable professionals. Beginning in their first year, students work with simulated patients to develop foundational therapy and assessment skills prior starting their practicum work.
Patient simulation work continues throughout their program. Practicums are part-time, off-campus commitments that typically average 20 hours per week and last between 9-12 months. Students work under the direct supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist and receive at least one hour of individual face-to-face weekly supervision. At the end of their fourth year, students will have completed a minimum of 1500 hours in health service settings with didactic learning. Learn more by clicking here.
Global Health Outreach

Score 1 for Health
Through KCU's Score 1 for Health, you’ll perform free health screenings to children in need, focusing your efforts on low-income families in the urban core.
