What to Expect

Dear KCU-COM Kansas City Class of 2024,

Congratulations on your decision to attend KCU-COM! We are excited to welcome you to campus for Orientation, Med School 101 and your White Coating Ceremony from Monday, July 13 through Thursday, July 23. Please plan to attend required activities from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each weekday. Your first day of class will be Monday, July 27.

Kansas City University continues to constantly monitor the public health emergency surrounding the spread of COVID-19 and we make adjustments to schedules on an ongoing-basis. At this time, the schedule for KCU’s 2020 Orientation, White Coating Ceremony and first day of classes remains unchanged. Later this spring, you can expect to receive detailed information regarding these events and days leading up to your first day of class at KCU. If we determine adjustments must be made, we will communicate that to you in a timely manner. In the meantime, please mark your calendar for the following dates.

Monday, July 13 – Wednesday, July 22: Orientation & Med School 101

KCU’s Office of Student Affairs has designed Orientation to help acclimate you to campus, introduce you to your new classmates and faculty, and prepare you for a well-rounded, successful experience in medical school. Over the course of the Orientation, new members of the COM Class of 2024 can expect to:

  • Participate in informational sessions intended to prepare you for your coursework ahead
  • Collectively give back to the community through the WE CARE Community Service Day
  • Gain exposure to pre-curricular learning experiences through Med School 101 that will provide an opportunity to examine your learning style and develop strategies for academic success.
  • Form and build relationships with new classmates and faculty

All Orientation and Med School 101 activities are required unless otherwise noted. A detailed schedule will be available in the coming months.

White Coating Ceremony

Orientation will conclude with the White Coating Ceremony, a very touching and significant event that symbolizes the beginning of your career as a medical student. Your ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, July 23, with a required rehearsal beforehand. The ceremony will take place at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, located at 1601 Broadway Blvd. in Kansas City, Missouri. You will have the opportunity to invite guests to witness this special event. Additional details will come from the University Events team in the coming months.

Please rest assured that the well-being of our entire campus community, which we are pleased to say now includes you, is of paramount importance and remains a priority as we make any scheduling decisions moving forward. Should you have any questions, please contact the Office of Student Affairs at 816-654-7225.

Sincerely,

KCU Student Affairs

P.S. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to join your official class Facebook group. It can be a helpful resource for housing, roommates, and other tips!
